  • How much are the room rents for teachers?

    • New Teacher Special: $16/hr for the 1st 9 months. (1 hr for 3 months, 2 hrs for 3 months, 3 hours for 3 months)

    • 8 x 8 rooms - full day $210/month (approx. $52.50/day)

    • 9 x 10 rooms - full day $235/month (approx. $58.75/day)

  • How much are the room rents for practice?

    • Our Grey Room is available for students or teachers or professionals to practice. $12/hr. Rates vary as discounts apply when your schedule increases. Room availabiltiy varies.

  • Can I rent by the hour or by the day or by the month?

    • We offer an hourly rental special to new teachers who are building they roster of students. Daily rentals are charged by the month. It is possible to rent the room by the month as well.

  • When is the rent due?  What if I’m late?

    • Rent is due on the 1st of the month. You are late after the 5th of the month.

  • What is included with my rent?

    • Storefront 1st floor location

    • Lesson room

    • Gas/Electric

    • HVAC

    • Wired ethernet and wireless internet (Teach online or in person)

    • Studio Cleaning

    • Placement on BSR’s website

  • Do I have to sign a lease?

    • Yes, we offer two options: month to month or 6 - 12 months.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    • 6 - 12 month lease must be completed, please give 30 days notice at the end of your lease if you wish to quit or continue. If you need to cancel your lease, contact me immediately.

  • What else is required with the lease?

  • Do you require a deposit?

  • What is provided in each room?

    • Dry erase board

    • Cork board

    • Throw rug for laminate wood flooring

    • 2 - 4 chairs

    • Music stand

    • Small table

  • Can I request other items provided in the room?

    • Yes, and occassionally I will provide them for you if they are reasonable requests.

  • Does Barefoot Studios get me students?

    • We do not provide you with students.

    • We do offer many ways that students can reach you through word of mouth, our signage and other creative marketing methods that we cooperate with you on.

  • Will you help me with advertising?

    • YES, absolutely. We work as a team of teachers mentoriong and helping each other to grow. There are MANY opportunities which you can utilize to help grow your lessons roster.

  • What marketing resources will help me get students?

    • Poway Chamber of Commerce - Barefoot Studios is a member

    • Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, LinkedIn (paid ads can be incredibly effective)

    • Our SIGN - visible from the street, people are seeing it and contacting us.

    • Flyers, Postcards, Business Cards (please leave me some business cards so I can hand them out)

    • Referrals - THIS will be YOUR #1 source of new students

  • What ONLINE marketing resources will help me get students?

  • What are the studio hours?

    • The studio is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Its probably best to schedule your students between the hours of 9am and 8pm.

    • Schedule changes should be made 1 month in advance.

  • How do I find and sign up for business liability insurance?

  • Do I need a business license?

    • The city of Poway requires you to apply for and maintain a business license for doing business in Poway. It is up to you to comply with the city.

  • What kind of security is on site?

    • Professionally monitored alarm system

    • Keypad locks on each studio door

    • Video surveillance in all rooms

  • Is there parking?

    • Yes, there is ample parking. I suggest that you park in the parking area behind the building so that your students can park in front.

  • What are the studio rules?

  • Do I get exclusivity to teach my instrument at Barefoot Studio Rentals?

    • No. However, it does not benefit me to have 4 clarinet teachers who are not filling their days with students. As I bring in new teachers I will be very careful to make sure that everyone is successful! My goal is to have one teacher for each instrument or instrument family first. Then as we see the need, add more teachers that duplicate instruments.

  • Do you have HVAC?

    • Yes and I can easily adjust, so text me if you need the room temperature adjusted.

  • Is there a bathroom?

    • Yes, we have our own bathroom in the back of the studio!

  • Do you have a waiting area?

    • Yes, there is a small waiting area at the front of the studio. Also, we can set chairs outside that students may sit and wait.

  • Can I teach group lessons?

    • Yes, lets talk about options!

  • Can I offer summer camps?

    • Yes. The city of Poway can also help with this, they have an extensive summer education program which will also help get your name out there!

  • Can I practice when I’m at the studio?

    • Yes, you can use the studio on your day, all day, for whatever musical purpose that you need as long as you do not violate the studio rules, or any ordinaces or laws of Poway, San Diego County or California, or the US.

  • Does Barefoot Studio Rentals offer recitals?

    • Each teacher may offer their own recitals.

    • BSR will be offering 2 outdoor recitals onsite each year, 1 in March or April and 1 in September.

  • What locations are available for recitals nearby?

    • There are several locations available, check the San Diego Libraries at Mira Mesa or Kearny Mesa for free. The city of Poway offers spaces to rent as well.

  • I’m new to running my own business, will you help me get started?

    • Yes, I will.

  • Who do I contact if I can’t find answers to my questions?

HOW THIS ALL CAME TO BE?

I’m a member of MTAC, part time employee with Poway Unified as an Upright Bass Coach, Independent Private Music Teacher, and Performer. As things have changed because of the new AB5 law and the pandemic, perhaps like you, I’ve had to adapt to the changing landscape for musicians and teachers. In January 2021, I started searching for a new location to teach from because my previous location was no longer available to me. I investigated existing studios and the option of building out my own. After seeing how little was available that was anywhere near affordable for a single teaching space, or at all conducive to teaching music lessons, I ended up building out my own six-room teaching studio in Poway, CA. I can’t believe how perfect it is for exactly what I was hoping to create for me and fellow musicians like YOU! We just finished construction and I’m excited to say that we are READY to invite YOU to come join the Barefoot Studios community!
